Raku Pottery

  • Cliff Temple Baptist Church (map)

Raku is one of the most adventurous and exciting forms of pottery. It involves making a piece of pottery (week one) and then firing the pottery again once it's glazed in a "raku kiln" (week 2). This second week will take place in Kat Malone's yard where Kat and Trevor will have their kilns. In 30 minutes the kilns will get to 2000 degrees when the pottery gets pulled out while red hot. The pottery is placed in combustible material and sealed in a can to promote reduction. This process produces colors and patterns that cannot be achieved through the traditional pottery process.
